What’s been happening in at our Snowsport Schools?

Our Regional Snowsport Schools in Manchester, Hemel Hempstead, Tamworth, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rossendale and Sandown are open all- year round to bring you adaptive ski and snowboard lessons.  You can book sessions at your local centre here. We had a busy couple of months with lots of exciting things happening throughout the country.

DSUK Tamworth - Our collaboration with Others

Amputation Foundation Midlands Group

At DSUK, we love working with other organisations to reach as many of their beneficiaries as possible to help improve mental and physical health and well-being through the power of sport.

In August we had the pleasure of hosting a ‘Have a Go Day’ for British Blind Sport. 14 of their members had the exciting opportunity to learn a new sport and have fun in a supportive and inclusive environment.  One of their members said:

“I enjoyed the challenge of doing something out of my comfort zone and the instructors and staff from British Blind Sport were all very friendly and helpful. These instructors gave us a full and detailed description of the snowboards which I found very useful as I had never seen a snowboard in my life, so I really appreciated being able to physically hold it and see how big it was before using it”

In September we welcomed both ‘The Amputation Foundation- Midlands Group’ and ‘Blesma – The Limbless Veterans’ to ski and snowboard with us. Their members enjoyed the social opportunity of meeting others with shared life experiences and participating in Snowsports together to build confidence, self-esteem and enjoy a positive focus.

Many thanks to all involved and for the Snowdome, Tamworth for their continued support.

DSUK Hemel go large at “Get your Kit Out Weekend 24” @ The Snow-Centre Hemel Hempstead

The DSUK Hemel team came together to showcase the work of the charity with a stand in the main café and delivered on snow sit-ski tasters.

On the 28th and 29th of September the DSUK Hemel team came together to promote the work of the organization and contribute to some vital fundraising. We gave sit ski rides to the general public out on the snow and sold second-hand ski equipment and clothing on a stand in the café whilst speaking to the public about the work we do. We were amazed by people’s interest, generosity and willingness to give the on-snow activities a go and raised over £1700 in just two days towards equipment and storage facilities at the sites in the South of England which are badly in need or replacing. It was the second year we have been invited by the Centre to showcase at the event and it was another huge success. We look forward to doing it again in 2025.  If you would like to contribute to our cause you can do so using the following link to our just giving page.

Join the Return of Adaptive Snowsport in Scotland!

DSUK Skier Emily, at Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre

After the battles of the pandemic, the closure of Snow Factor, and bringing in new Scottish management, DSUK is now pleased to offer consistent snowsports sessions across the central belt of Scotland. We have group sessions and private sessions running every week at Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Bearsden Snowsports Club, and Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre.

What’s New?

We're excited to announce the return of Adaptive Snowsport sessions at various locations across Scotland. This includes ASN group sessions on Sunday afternoons at Bearsden Snowsports Club and Midlothian Snowsports Centre. Private lessons are also available at Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre on Wednesdays and Fridays, and at Bearsden Snowsports Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We’re thrilled to bring bi-skiing back at Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre and now offer VI (visually impaired) lessons at all centres, following the success of the BASI VI in Snowsports course. These programs make it possible for new and returning skiers, like Nathalie Thomson, to enjoy the slopes again. Additionally, we are preparing to take bookings for Cairngorm and Glencoe, starting in January, weather permitting.
